Self Portrait with Etching Equipment, c. 1963
mezzotint and roulette, ed. c.7, 5 3/8 x 8 3/8"
Very few etchers print well…Etching is a form of engraving and should not look like a painting. I like a print to be black and white. ML
about the artist
Lewis’ dominate theme was his beloved New York and the people who lived there. He never used a camera but walked the streets making sketches and mental notes. He worked directly on his copper plates and used chiaroscuro for dramatic effects.
