Robert Indiana, (aka Robert Clark)
American, born 1928

Indiana is known as a "Pop" artist although he says he is an autobiographical artist.

Artist Statement

Ideally I would like things to be as close to the human scale as possible. I am a sign painter. I wanted my work to be affordable to people who are not wealthy.

I've been writing all my life. When I was in high school I was a journalism major, I had my own newspaper - the largest newspaper in Alaska - I've always been involved with words, a perfectly natural flow for that to happen.
