In my work, each element plays an essential role. Archetypal objects, geometry, light and shadow, color and texture all support each other. When the tableau has been established, the elements work together to create a visual performance. I am fascinated with the craft and execution of classical painting. I paint with molten beeswax in the ancient encaustic method, which I find heightens the visual impact of a two-dimensional image and adds a seductive character that cannot be achieved with any other medium.
Since earning a BFA in drawing and painting from Carnegie Mellon University in 1983, I have continually painted and until 2010, worked full-time in television. I was lead graphic designer for The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien in Los Angeles. Prior to that, I was a graphic designer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Saturday Night Live in New York City. I now live and paint full-time in the Hudson Valley.
